Biting into foods with braces?

I have had braces for a year and have never broken a bracket or wire or anything. However, I have been extremely careful, to the point where I don't bite into ANYTHING. I cut or break pieces off pizza, burgers, burritos, wraps, sandwiches, etc. However, I am going to have them for another year so I was wondering, WOULD something on braces break if I bite into those things (I don't mean hard foods like apples). What are your experiences? Thank you!

Ok I had braces for 10 years and they only broke a couple of times, some of which wasn't my fault. It really depends on how chewy it is, the chewier the more likely it is that something will break. burgers, burritos, sandwiches, etc. should be fine. the ones you have to worry about are pizza, pepperoni rolls, pigs in a blanket, gummy bears, gum (and yes sugar free gum is included), twizzlers, etc. Other things to avoid are hard chips like dorritos which can knock the wires loose. I'm guessing you already know about hard foods like apples and cutting the corn off the cob etc. Hope this helps some.

Whoa! I've had my bracess for a year and I'm not careful what so ever. I've only broken one bracket and that's because i was chewing on a water bottle. Other than that I've been pretty good. Seriously you don't have to cut ALL ur food. They only tell you to do that when you first get them so you don't have the pains. You can pretty much bite anything cause all ur bracketss are on the edge of ur teeth. And food doesn't touch that area only when ur chewing. LIke legit I eat hard thingss too. I just haven't tried anything like apples (I still would cut that.)

Hard foods, , Chop bite size bits and put them at the back of your mouth,

You get used too it, the brace wire is thicker now after a year therefore the other way yu will break your brace is if you eat a very very very hard toffee!

Nothing would happen if you bite into foods like that. The main things my orthodontist told me that would kill my braces are ice, raw carrots, apples, caramel candy, and stuff like that. So I think you'll be alright.
