This is very interesting, especially given what else has been going on in the anime world lately.
While this situation between VIZ Media and Narutofan.com, and the situation between Funimation and fansub distributors/downloaders, are two very different situations on the surface, I think that both point towards what the online anime fandom could be seeing a lot more of in the future.
And that is major anime distributing companies trying to co-opt the online anime fandom. This will naturally put such companies at odds with very popular fan-made, fan-operated sites, and very popular fan-subbed anime distributions.
The online anime fandom is, to its credit, very established, very well-organized, and of significant number. This makes it something that major anime distributing companies will likely want to take over.
Over the past two or three years, I'd every so often read and see some anime fans stating a desire for the anime industry to shift their focus from physical distribution (DVDs, Blu-Rays) to digital distribution. Beyond that, I'd see those same fans argue for the anime industry to simply pay more attention to its sizable online anime fandom.
At the time, I had some vague reservations over these ideas that admittedly seem great on the surface. I also couldn't fully understand why I had those nagging reservations, so I mostly just dismissed them.
But now I know why I had them.
It's because dealings between fans and the big companies that service them are not always done on a level playing field. Oftentimes the big companies have fans at a large power disadvantage, and will try to take control of things in ways that fans may not like. And now it seems that significant parts of the anime industry are in fact trying to take control of the online anime fan community.
As the old saying goes, be careful what you wish for, you might just get it...
I certainly don't agree with what VIZ media is doing here.

VIZ's anime exceptional is as an alternative rushed I'll supply you that. However, it is not them at the entire that is the challenge a few factors within the organization can take it down (Hidemi Fukara, Ken Sasaki). They will have to persist with manga, reason that is the one factor they are rather ready at it. One thing more: the voice appearing isn't wood ample, the Japanese isn't damaged ample, and the edits aren't reduce-and-paste ample to be on an anime destroying degree, regardless that it is getting rattling near.
