laptop battery-- help!?
I bought a replacement battery for my Acer Travelmate 4230 off ebay last year & it seems to have stopped holding its charge.Computer just switches off even when battery icon is green.
Is there a way of checking that its the battery thats at fault rather than my computer??
Also - what is the difference between a replacement battery and a rechargeable battery ?
Thanks for answering.
I just noticed that some batteries are identical apart from the writing- some say replace and some say rechargeable

Hi,
Please note all replacement batteries are rechargeable. laptop battery should work at-least for 2-3 years.
But to confirm the fault contact your nearest laptop repair center.
But it seems that there is fault in your battery, and not in your computer.
Try this : remove the battery, and AC power. If you have access to the battery contacts inside of the battery compartment (in some laptops it's very accessible, others its almost impossible) try cleaning the connection terminals with rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip. It may not be getting the proper connection necessary to charge, recharge, and report battery information to the laptop.
If you are facing same problem then replace your battery with another one.
Or if you have warranty period for this battery for the battery contact your battery supplier.
Hope I could help you!!!!!!!!!

All laptop batteries are rechargeable. A year seems a little short for a battery to go dead. Laptop batteries will start getting weak after about 2-3 years.
I would recommend just buying a new one, theyre usually pretty dirt cheap. As far as it being an issue with the computer, I cant say. If the computer is getting hotter faster than usual it might be, but I would expect the problem to lie with the battery.

It's most likely the battery. However, did you know that not cleaning the battery connector(s) will also deteriorate the lifespan of the battery? You should use electronic cleaning wipes or something like a little bit of Windex to do so. Also, heat is the #1 killer of batteries. So you should probably get a cooling pad if you don't already have one.
Check out Amazon instead of eBay, too. Amazon is sort of more trustful because it's an actual retailer.
