Why is Yahoo slow to respond to attacks from their website?

A week ago I simply logged into my Yahoo Mail account like I have hundreds of times before. This time, however, my anti-virus detected an attack on my PC. It was coming from a banner advertisement from the Yahoo Mail page. It also showed that it was from a company called "bluelithium.com".

I contacted Yahoo Abuse/Customer Service to note the virus embedded in the banner ad. Yahoo took a full week to reply to my "issue" and then said they needed more information. Huh? Do this my friends! Do a search inside Yahoo Answers for bluelithium.com . There are literally HUNDREDS of others that have posted to this forum, complaining about similar viruses. And Yahoo Customer Service needs more information? Doesn't the Yahoo staff ever bother to read the Yahoo Answers section that is directed at Yahoo problems?

Your comments please?

No need to panic, those "viruses" aren't real viruses, they are tracking cookies - let me explain...

Some time ago Yahoo had technical problems and accidentally placed a script in the box on the YA pages instead of the flash ads normally displayed. That's when I found out that adyield-manager and "bluelithium" are used to place personalized ads - they use cookies to track your browsing habits, so you may get a different ad displayed than somebody sitting right next to you. That prompted me to look for solutions since I don't like to get spied upon, and I found several good solutions...

1: Click tools in your top bar -> click "Internet Options" -> click "Security" tab -> click on "Restricted Sites" -> click "Sites", type in the following two sites:

    http://ads.bluelithium.com/

    http://ad.yieldmanager.com/

Or 2: Download and install the latest Firefox browser:

    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html

    Install "adblock plus":

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/186...

Result: no more annoying ads! And pages are loading much quicker too...:-)

3: http://www.admuncher.com/ - this adblocker for the IE (and other browsers) gets highly recommended in several forums.

    4: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/26171/safari-... - for Safari Mac

5: http://opindian.com/blog/2009/02/25/adblock-soluti... - another solution for Safari 4 Win and Mac.

I for one have the Firefox installed and don't see a single ad on the Yahoo pages...:-)

About the Yahoo staff reading anything posted on YA: they have only a few staff members, but YA has millions of users - it would be impossible to monitor everything posted on YA...

Because they're idiots and probably only a few of people work for them!

I think Yahoo Customer Service hardly cares about the average person on here!

Hmm... undecided approximately that one, and not that professional in viruses the two. yet i visit assert that browser-based spyware is getting further and added intrusive. i take advantage of Maleware Byte's AntiMalware and Spybot seek & smash. the two are loose, run interior the background without throwing up greater than a number of popup crap, and do a solid activity of removing junk.
