Not being able to answer after deleting own answer?
I've noticed the following scenario:
I've answered a question. Some minutes afterwards I conclude that my answer isn't good enough. So I delete it. Later I compose a better answer, but the "Answer Question" button is gone for me. I'm no longer allowed to answer that question.
I feel it's not fair.
I guess I know why this happens: in the Yahoo database it's recorded that my answer was deleted. Yahoo assumes that's because it was offensive. So I'm not allowed to "offend" anymore.
But this is wrong in my case.
What are your thoughts on this?
@cashrules: You ask "why don't you just edit it?"
I don't edit it because I have the impression, at that time, that my answer doesn't have any merit in it. That on the whole it contributes nothing. So I delete it. I'm not planning on coming back. But LATER I change my mind and believe I can contribute to the discussion (and that my answer actually had something good in it).
BTW, this happened to me only twice. And when I want to return and answer a question it shows that I *care* about the question/issue. It's ironic that when I *care* about a question, I no longer allowed to answer it. That's why I say it isn't fair.

don't take it personally.
and every answer is important.
if something has only happened twice then it's no big deal.
if you answer a question, you can always go back and edit it later ... I do that a lot, because I don't feel like my first answer is best and sometimes I see that someone else answers better.
yahoo isn't assuming anything ... it's an automated system, set to run a certain way. people haven't the time to take anything personally on a website with millions of members.
don't act based on what you feel at the moment. answer as best as you can, and come back later and think about editing it, because even though you might feel like deleting it now, in an hour or a day or whenever you might change your mind, so leave yourself open to the possibilities that you might always learn something new and have something new to contribute in the future.

Those are the rules - once you delete an answer, you are not able to post a different answer to the same question. What is allowed though: hit edit without deleting your answer, then post your new findings. The word "edit" will be added to your answer by the system automatically, so it may be wise to explain why you edited your answer.
And yes, this is fair, otherwise trolls could misuse the system.

When you click Delete on an answer, it warns you that you will not be able to submit another answer. It's completely fair since you were warned.
So if you still wish to answer the question you should use the Edit feature. You can completely change your answer that way, although it will show that your answer has been edited.
