Holiday contract problems after cancelling?

We booked up a villa 8 months ago, paying 30% deposit,we were due to fly out in 3 days, but due to a family illness we've had to cancel.

We've signed a contract which doesn't mention paying full amount in english, but after translating the Italian half it states we must pay the extra 70%.

Are we within our rights not paying the 70% as it states everything else but this in the english half?

You signed the contract as offered, your lack of understanding or questioning cancellation policy is not their problem. At this late date I doubt any holiday tour or resort would let you out of the contract. Sorry.

Pay this and claim it back on your holiday insurance...happens all the time.
