what is the difference between pet quality and show quality dogs?
Do all AKC breeders just breed for aesthetics? I mean i know that dogs with faults are considered pet quality and are cheaper. However, is temperament a consideration when breeding for show quality? do show breeders breed for the temperament of the breed standard (herding instinct, etc.) or do they breed for modern day pet expectations as as well? just curious.
i've always got my dogs from shelters and many of them were mutts, i also work on training abandoned/abused bully breeds. I've tried to stay out of political breeding battles. However i really want to get a dog to train for volunteer rescue, and i was thinking about getting a puppy from a breeder, but these are some of the random questions i had to ask the masses.
one of the reasons i'm asking is. i haven't chosen a breed yet, but as i work with bully breeds i make sure that i'm always living in places/ have insurance that does not punish the breed, but has no tolerance for irresponsible owners. as i was debating on what breed to get/ or trying to figure out if i should just go to the shelter and click, i cam across some information doberman pinscher ( i was raised with a dobie from infancy) saying that more and more dobie breeders are breeding away from the original temperament that is considered breed standard, in order to change the fear of the breed in the public. Basically not breeding for show quality or against aesthetic faults alone but breeding for a more mild mannered less neurotic/aggressive dog. they want to change the breed standard all together.... hence the odd question

Yes, temperament is considered when breeding purebred dogs. For example, a docile American Staffordshire terrier would be disqualified from the ring since terriers are expected not to be docile. An indiscriminate aggressive Rottweiler would be disqualified since they are expected to be able to tell the difference between a threat and a friend and are actually pretty chill dogs. Temperament plays a LARGE role in breeding - of both working and show dogs. The entire breed standard MUST be met for a dog to be shown - and stand a chance - in the ring. That included temperament, color, size, proportion of body, etc.
Pet quality bred dogs don't meet one or more of said criteria. For example, a Rottweiler with a white crest on his chest would be disqualified instantly from the ring and therefore, would be sold as pet quality. These are called faults. The average joe might not even be able to see the fault, but the trained eye will ALWAYS catch it. For example, my sisters Pomeranian is pet quality because his ears are set too far apart on his head. Usually, there is nothing wrong with these dogs at all except for aesthetically. HOWEVER, there might be a temperament difference from other dogs of the breed. It may or may not be bad. It should be noted that aggression is never tolerated (as in TRUE aggression, not reactivity), in pet quality or show quality dogs. It is a fault in ALL breeds - contrary to common misconceptions.

Temperament should definitely be a consideration in pet vs. show quality. Reputable breeders breed to better the breed and adhere as closely to the standard as possible. They need to be picky -- even when breeding two champion dogs together they won't produce 100% show quality puppies. And of the show quality pups, not all will finish their championships, pass all testing for hereditary disease, and be worthy of breeding.
If there is a specific volunteer rescue that you're interested in, call them and ask about the dogs that they use. They might prefer a particular breed, or even a particular breeder... or they might tell you what kind of temperament to look for in a mixed breed dog from a shelter.

Pet quality dogs don't do well as a show quality dog, everything has to be perfect for a show dog, size ratio, coat, teeth, bone structure, etc. The ultimate gratis for a show dog is of course to become champion so it can go on to sire or have pups for the line to go on. The pet quality dogs are super for volunteer work, they are just a bit smaller or not quite right in the body ratio, but the breed itself is great for any kind of social work, whether it's blind dog trained or wheel chair trained or visits nursing homes or jumps into tight places to rescue. They are less expensive to buy, but in the long run, training is expensive in money and time and they are required to be fixed. The breeder will have you sign papers stating that requirement As far as having a loving dog, there's no difference. I'm involved w/ several breeds that are show quality and agility trained, the time and love at home is no different than a mutt. many show quality dogs have specific things they do best, like a bloodhound tracks and will have special training and activities to hone their senses.

tutor high quality doggies are doggies which you need to purchase, enter into shows, competitions, and sell breedings to make different domestic canines. those are greater or much less the 'p.c.. of the clutter' domestic canines. there is generally in basic terms one or 2 tutor high quality doggies in a clutter. IF THAT. So particular it truly is comprehensible the breeder could choose greater funds for it, as she'd charging for the money you may make breeding the canines and/or prevailing shows/competitions. puppy high quality domestic canines are in basic terms that, domestic canines that at the instant are not tutor high quality. they could have the incorrect markings, be a splash too small or a splash too enormous, have too lots white, the incorrect colour nostril, or the different tiny flaw that exqualifies them from being a showdog. there is not something incorrect with puppy high quality domestic canines; till you wanted to tutor your canines, they make proper pets. in many circumstances, breeders will make you sign a settlement which will make you spay or neuter your tutor-high quality domestic dog. additionally, please please please please do your analyze. Australian shepherds at the instant are not a breed for the amateur canines proprietor. guarantee that as quickly as you pass to the breeder, the mummy and dad are on premises, they seem healthful, as do the domestic canines. make particular each little thing looks ok, etc.. value clever, it truly is fantastic. i've got seen puppy high quality choose for fairly much less... yet hi, all breeders are diverse.

Temperament is the number one thing conscientious breeders breed for. Each breed community is small, and no one wants to breed to Cujo. In particular, intact males must get along with each other in close quarters in the ring, where, during best of breed, they are right next to b*tches who may be in heat. Each show dog must be socialized to people and to other dogs.
Even so, a dog with a less-than-perfect temperament is not going to a novice owner. No one wants to be known as the one who sold Cujo to the Full House family, either. Not once he chomped on the Olsen Twins, anyways.
