blink-182's "Up All Night", My Review and Your Thoughts?

Blink-182 streamed their much anticipated single "Up All Night" less than two hours ago. If you want to hear it: http://kroq.radio.com/2011/07/14/blink-182-world-p...

Like all blink fans, I do miss the days of their Warped Tour, pop-punk, toliet talk style and material, but I'm not saying the whole album will be this way; the band has said numerous times that the new album will have no genre, and will have a little bit of everything. That said, I actually REALLY like the new single. You can definitely hear Angels & Airwaves in the guitar effects, as well as Tom's voice. Mark's tone and the song's style are very alike to +44. And Travis Barker's skills have overlapped from his solo album into blink's new material as well.

In the end, I feel like this was the best song for blink-182 to release first, as it combines what each member has done in music since their hiatus in 2005. They aren't picking up exactly where they left off with their 2003 self-titled album, each of the trio has matured in his own way in music, and it really shows in "Up All Night".

The new album is scheduled to come out, in the words of Tom DeLonge, "smack bang in the middle" of their fall tour, presumably sometime in September.

What are your thoughts on the new single, as well as the new blink-182?

I don't like it that much. I appreciate how different it is. I wasn't expecting the song to sound like that. It also has a great freestyle feel to it. The song itself feels very much like a continuation of the material from the last release.

I do not like the overuse of the flanger and other effects of the sound. That was a poor choice. The single also sounds too overly produced. Take it down some, and make the effects sound more natural and less overbearing, and I think the song would sit much better.

Overall it is a good leadoff single. It's nice to hear both of their vocals playing off each other in classic Blink fashion, as well as Travis's hip-hop-ey, jam beats keeping time.

First off, I have to respectfully disagree when you say that it has the A&A guitar effects in it, as for Tom's voice I think there is no going back for that, but who knows? I personally think that this is what they would have done if they were still around in '04 or '05 if they were to continue off their self-titled album. Enema of The State was a big jump from Dude Ranch and TOYPAJ was a mash of Enema of The State, Dude Ranch and newer material, so they are constantly evolving in the style of music they play. Granted they have all been doing side projects in the past few years and what they did with those projects they have brought to the table with the new blink-182. I really like the sound of the new song. The intro, in a small, minute way, reminds me of Violence (the part where the bass comes in). I also like how they switched off the verses with every other line, kinda like they did in Stockholm Syndrome. The chorus where Tom sings, "We'll get this straight. Do you want me here as I struggle through each and every year? ...", reminds me of WDNTW from A&A. Overall this song is the best I have heard from them in the past 7 years. :P lol. This really is a good song. I downloaded it off YouTube and then loved it so much I went on iTunes last night when it came on sale and bought it. Please check out the link too. The riff in the beginning is "Up All Night" from 2003.

i actually love this song at first listen i was alil disappointed but it began to grow on me. The only thing "AVA" about it is the chorus everything else sounds like the direction they wanted to go in after they released their s/t album. I am very excited to here the new album after hearing Up All Night. Good first effort in more than 8 years for Blink.

I don't like it. It just doesn't seem like Blink-182 to me. It seems more like Angels And Airwaves with Mark as a featured singer and Travis on drums rather than aa Blink-182 song
