Is Gamestop's Power up rewards pro worth joining and what do points do?

My husband used to be a assistant manager at GameStop when the Power up rewards came out. I would honestly recommend signing up for the Power up rewards program. Its not a scam or anything to worry about.

You get:

> 1 year subscription to game informer magazine. Its a good magazine but I don't agree with all of their reviews. Practically worth $15 alone.

> 10% off all used games and accessories and 10% addition to your trade in credit. I love buying used because you can return them in a week and get your money back no questions asked. Also works on the Gamestop website :D. The card pays itself off easily with this discount not only making the card free but ends up saving you money in the long run. The catch is it only lasts a year but you can buy a lot of games in that time, I know I do. Usually people trade games in within a week of their release saving you about $5 on a new game.

> Get exclusive coupons and sales to Power up members only via email. It doesn't spam you I promise. I get like 2 emails a month.

> You can buy things with the Points you earn. Points are easy to build too. Check out the website for details but you can gain points buying games and trading games. The points can be spent on anything from gift cards to novelty items. I just got coasters that look like power buttons for a really small amount of points but I would say every 1,000 points is equivalent to $1 ($50 gift card for 50,000 points etc.)

I totally think its worth it especially if you buy and trade a lot of games. Everyone I know that has it enjoys it and every employee seems to own one and they don't get a discount on the membership.

No, it's not. I should know because I actually applied like an idiot. All the reward points you get are only good for random crap you don't want or need for your gaming experience. And even if if they were what you want, do you know how long it would take you or how much games you have to buy and sell to accumulate a lot of points?

You would have to go to Gamestop nearly every 3 days, buying AND selling games along with using your Powercard, and it would take you nearly 2-3 years to get enough reward points for ONE thing that may actually be worthy for you to get.

If you ask me... selling on Amazon.com was the best idea I ever had when it came down to video games. I also buy from them too, mainly because the condition of their items are far better most of the time than Gamestop's.

So do yourself a favor... if anyone tells you otherwise, they have NEVER used any other source for their gaming needs, so don't listen to them. Just buy and sell on either Amazon or eBay. You'll save and make more money this way... I guarantee you will.
