Windows XP -> Windows 7 should I ?

i have a older PC, pretty good graphic card and 2gb of ram nice processor but its still running windows XP and was thinking of Upgrading it to windows 7 but due to the computers limitation it would probably have to be the 32 bit version.

Anyone with experience with 7 can you tell me if its worth it?

before you ask the copy I would be upgrading to is free ( Gift ) i just want to know since I am going for the 32 bit ver is there really a point?

Thanks

    The short answer is no.

    There are good reasons to upgrade to windows 7, but when you don't mention any, why waste the time?

    I find windows 7 to be more powerful to work with and more pleasant then windows XP. However XP is perfectly good enough, at least for what I am doing.

    When upgrading an older computer, you run the risk that the machine is powerful enough for XP but might feel sluggish with windows 7 (which requires somewhat more resources).

    Worst: The installation of Windows 7 is easy, however the upgrade is painful. You will loose all your data which you haven't backed up. Some programs will run in compatibility mode only. If you are like me, half the programs will be difficult to reinstall, because you need to find the old disk or license code.

    I still use windows XP in a laptop 5 years old and also on a desktop 6 years old and the both run even better than when they came out of the box. I still say windows XP is the easiest and best version of windows that has yet been created. I just have built this computer to my specifications. It's kind of the computer of my dreams. It has windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, 8GB ram and can run 16GB if I could afford to buy the 4 4GB chips LOL Make sure your computer has the specs to run windows 7 and install windows 7. I know you will like it. Of course now 64-bit would be a lot better. With 32-bit you can only get a maximum of 3 to 3.5GB of ram.

    Windows 7 is definately better, faster and icer but if your used to XP you may want to stay where you are....

    It is always nice to have the newest thing but your opinion might changing while using it.......

    Remember that with with the 32bit version you can only have about 3ish gb ram which at the minute is alright but if you ever think about upgrading you would be limited

    7 is much, much better and more stable. Yet on your older PC it might perform slower than XP... Make sure it meets the minimum requirements before installing 7.

    And btw... it's not an upgrade. To go from XP to Windows 7 you'll have to format the hard drive and install 7 from scratch.

    The upgrade from Vista to win 7 did not work very well on my machine. Win 7 worked great with a fresh install though. You will not regret it - your machine will run it fine.

    Yup. upgrade to windows 7. IT is faster and has nice user interface. You will never regret when installing this OS. :D You don't need to reformat your PC, you can upgrade from XP to 7. and migrate your files.

    If you really need to switch to newer OS switch to it, but Windows XP is familiar to everyone so I'd rather stick with my XP than to switch.....
