When you dust with a duster you just displace the dust and then it re-settles. If you dust with a microfiber cloth or a good vacuum or even a wet cloth of some sort you actually pick up the dust. If you already are doing that than just remember that dust comes from the windows being open and from our own skin and maybe, since it's an older house it is coming from up high and falling down. Just make sure you're not just sweeping the dust into the air and letting it settle back down or you will just be needlessly frustrated.

Ultimately, you can never get rid off dust completely. How old is the carpet in the house? That could be bringing up a lot of dust if it's old.

Spray your entire carpet with Febreeze, or just lay something over the carpet to cover it up. Which song by Bloodhound Gang if it's by them?
