I would like an opinion should I join VFW or legion?

I am an aging veteran of overseas military combat. It seems everyone is has an opinion, I would like to hear from someone I do not know. This way I believe the opinion would be less biased.

Better deal is VFW. They offer a life time membership at a reasonable price based on age. American Legion only offers a yearly renewable plan.

SInce you had to serve overseas under certain circumstances, the VFW becomes a bit more exclusive.

I went to meetings for both. The VFW had a nearby post that had an awesome record for helping Vets with their claims. That was my main reason for joining, so I opted for the VFW.

    No regrets.

I would go by whatever is closest to you and is at the activity level you want to be at.

Where I am from almost every town has a VFW, but there are only a few American Legion posts left. Those that are around are mostly just there in name. Everyone joins the VFW.

You can if you want to. There are several good reasons to join, starting with the lobbyist efforts on behalf of vets. On a personal level, it allows you to network and socialize with other vets. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities to help the community. Plus, the VFW I used to go to, had beer for .80 cents, and happy hour it was .60 cents. I personally don't belong anymore, mainly because I'm an unemployed college student right now, but I did join the American Legion, and it was okay.

When I became disabled the VFW wouldn't answer my emails asking for help. I'm a life member. Have no use for them.

Why not both. Each has something to offer and if you do any traveling you can always find one if not both. I am a Vet Nam Vet and a Life member of both. I would try each and see which one you want to work with. You can always drop out of one if it is not to your liking.
