Do you remember when a mix breed dog was called a mutt?

Now days when two dogs mix they come up with designer names...Chi-weenie..Chug....Chuginesse...Morkie...Pek-a-poo...yorki--poo? What's the funniest mix you ever heard of?

these designer dogs are never bred for the right reason, my children have to see the miracle of life (why don't the family's produce there own baby in front of there children?) they will be so cute, I want to keep the dog in the family, ETC. They do not do the testing and they can NOT do everything a purebred does because there is no breed standard and no stable DNA in mutts. With as many dogs being euthanized no more mutts need to be made until they are adopted out. these dogs have been around for a while, it was until they started being in movies and given those names did they become popular, growing up we had a chi doxi mix now they are called chiweenies. I think people started naming them and passing off as a new breed for more money, they often use the fake registries because papers mean more money. The bad thing is with people buying with the lastest fad, they go out and then they get rid of there dog because it is no longer the latest accessory.

Most of the owners of these silly little things appear to be women from my experience. Figures...they're all over anything with an upscale label on it and can always be easily convinced to spend more money than they should for crap like that.

I once had a lady stop to admire my Pittmix before telling me in a very condescending tone, "I have a dog too. IT's a 'cock-a-lier.' Now what that is, is it's a mix between a COCKER SPANIAL and a CAVELIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL.' I'm sure she got conned into spending 4-600 bucks for the mutt from some supposed breeder too. She was VERY proud of her Cockalier and seemed very happy to have the chance to educate me on what this was.

I want to get a dog that looks sort of like a Golden Retriever with what looks like a little Shih Tzu in it. Then when people ask me what breeds he's a mix of I would say it's the newest high end designer breed, something like either "**** Retriever" or "Golden ****." Then once the word spread I would start charging like 800 bucks for them.

I think those are only used when you actually know the cross. I still call them mutts. My dad used to call them Slobovian Barksalots. I think the designer name I like least is the Cockapoo. If I had one, I would still say it was a Cocker Spaniel, Poodle cross.

It was a more polite term than mongrel... and could be used for any range of mix. Most of the hybrid names come from two pedigree animals being deliberately mixed to create a special blend... nothing to do with my ***** got out and didn't come back til the morning.

They're still called mutts. Ok, technically I always used "mutt" to refer to a dog of unknown ancestry, whereas when I knew their parentage I just state it, as in "dachsund-chihuahua mix".

Words like chiweenie are coined all the time, in order to facilitate communication; it's how language is made. I don't always like it, and I don't usually use the ones I don't like (chiweenie is a good example, so is anything ending in "doodle").

If I could design a breed, it would be the "Catapillar": catahoula/pyranees/lab/ridgeback

    Pong Pang Chao,

  • The most ridiculous one I ever heard was on this board yesterday.

Someone called her Chihuahua/Yorkie mix a "Chalkie" God knows how they got that one.

    Utterly ridiculous.

I think dogs are called a mutt is when you do not know what breed it is, it could be 2 or more breeds.
