problem with my mum's iphone?

Kay well its been registered on my computer but i have just plugged it in and it came up with the box (open and share files, view and import photos etc.) but when i went on itunes it didnt turn up as a device in the sidebar. I wanted to resync it because there are too many cds downloaded onto it with the same songs taking up space on it now I'm really worried what do I do?

    Make sure you iTunes is updated. Then Plug back your iPhone.

    Unplug it and plug it in again. If that doesn't work restart iTunes and the iPhone and make sure iTunes is up to date
