Why do people think France is such a weak country?

Want me to tell you why! First; France has NEVER ruled half of the world! When did they rule the USA?!?!? They only ruled a little fraction of South America seeing that that most of the South America was under Spain's control and Portugal controlling Brazil and others. And ruling Africa didn't really count because it was carved up and you never really ruled your African colonies seeing that everyone had colonies in Africa. Yea and Asia you mean your Vietnam, France begged for help and then the USA helped out then France withdrew from the war in Vietnam and NATO because "they were tired of fighting" a war they started and left it to the US. They surrendered in WW1 and WW2 and can never fight wars by themselves. The reason the media see's France as weak is because they haven't contributed anything big compared to other first-world countries such as USA, UK, Germany, Russia, Italy, ETC. Yes today France is a formidible country but if a country like France went one on one with a country like the USA or UK they would surrender at the thought of war. Hell Germany could make France surrender today. Just media picking on what they see as the weakest first-world country. France hasn't proved itself in the modern world yet.

I am not French but if I was I would be proud to be. France is one of the strongest countries in the world and always has been. No country has ever gone to war and won every single time. France has had one of the strongest empires in the world, they have won the most European battles in history. The only reason they are seen as weak is because of ww1 and 2. But can you blame them, hitler had the blitz and destroyed all of Europe except GB. and that's because they are an island and not on the continent itself. Remember napoleon, he devastated prussia and Austria, taking Vienna 2 times in a less then a decade, conquered Rome , and made russia worry about the numbers of troops. Waterloo was lost because France had to fight British AND Prussian just as napoleon came back into power. They could had conquered all of Europe because thats just how strong they were.

Even today france may not be able to compete with russia or USA but neither can Britain, in fact the RN isn't much better then the French navy. Although they lost most of their colonies in the past years so has Britain. So even today France would be in a dead lock with Britain and would beat Germany at war. So just remember that

Most people dont think back far in time. As you say , very few poeple know about their wars pre WW1. Also the americans tv culture pounded that idea for quite a while. hard to ignore for most.

you guys make me laugh and rage at the same time. I'm european and i can tell you France is one of the most powerful country in the world. Technically, they won both WWI and WW2. For WWI, let me remind you France lost more than 2 billions and didn't lose. in fact, they made Germany lose more. Whereas USA lose only 150k men and showed up at the very end of the war, when French, Brits and Germans were all tired of fighting. And let's talk about WW2. This is true that France lose against germany, but jeeze! It was the ******* WHERMACHT on the other side of the battlefield. And all french didn't surrender. The french colonial empire still was in fight, and the general De Gaulle commanded it. For example, he was the one whi said **** off America when you tried to command them in NATO. And also: you have your independance by france. yorktown has been won by french guys, and the Brits couldn't get equipment because the french navy stopped the brittish one. And also, the Nazis you're so proud having beaten were surrounded by both USA and USSR, while NApoleon conquered entire EUrope being surrounded, except England. French are the only one to have conquered Europe from Madrid to Mosco, that Hitler didn't even manage to invade. I think Americans hate French because they form and older and barely equal-in-power country than USA, and have never been ashamed of it
