My understanding is that Social Security is a separate pot of money, not affected by the debt limit. What will fail is Medicare and Medicaid, as well as such things like unemployment compensation and government bonds.

As long as President Obama & democrats have any power this would never happen. Republicans are trying to scare people & then they act like the dems are the ones that want to hurt them. Republicans only care about the people who are going to pay them to do what they do for them.
So NO this is not going to happen. At the last minute the republicans are afraid to do what they want to do cause the moral majority has too many boys in their closet & this administration has had them all investigated so the dems will always get their way. There way is for the working class which consists of 99% of the country. Not the 1% even thought many dems are in that 1% they are not greedy. They understand true prosperity.

Social Security has its own account separate from the Fed.As people who are working are always paying into it,it should always have money in it.Where the problem lies is if it is short of what they need. Then the Fed comes in and makes up the difference. If the Government shuts down then that money would not be there. They would have to pay it as people pay into it all their lives, its not the Governments money. It would be stealing the peoples money not to pay.

The money to pay social security is there no matter what happens with the debt ceiling, so if the checks were not to go out , it would be because Obama said to not send them out

Obama is blameless in the massive unemployment and skyrocketing job loss this country experienced long before taking office. He is blameless in the massive unemployment bleeding we experienced while taking office. Blameless in massive unemployment occurring during the first year in office and blameless in the minor bleeding thereafter
