the dimensions of my tank are 30 in. long, 16 in. tall, and 12 in. wide.

Multiplying those dimensions gives you the volume in cubic inches. There are 231 cubic inches in a gallon.
30 X 16 X 12 = 5760 cubic inches. Divided by 231, that's 24.94 gallons. The actual water volume is less since the calculated volume includes the thickness of the glass and the plastic frame, plus you would not fill a tank right to the top but leave an inch or more of air space.
