A few things I would change or improve:
- Scrap any voice-command based infotainment systems right now unless they work with plain English (or whatever language they're being marketed to). Most people don't follow the logic of the computer programmers who try to program the systems and those few who do understand the logic get extremely tired of receiving calls every day from their parents asking how to operate their system.
- Doors should NEVER lock by themselves when the car isn't in motion (my VW does this while sitting in the garage, often after 1 minute of being unlocked if the key is removed from the car). Also when the car stops and you get out, the trunk should be unlocked too (another annoying VW feature - the trunk is ALWAYS locked when the car stops until you press the trunk unlock button...in the car or on the key fob...very inconvenient).
- All traction/stability control systems should be 100% driver defeatable with a special key or button sequence. Many cars don't allow the driver to fully disable those nanny systems (for liability reasons I suppose) but there are a few times when it IS 100% necessary to defeat them fully, especially if you live somewhere that it snows a lot and you get stuck in the driveway etc.,
- If my cell phone will work at driving speed, so should my navigation system and all other car electronics. Nav systems that can't be accessed or that are extremely limited in function once the car is in motion are pointless IMO if the driver can just distract him/herself by using a cell phone while in motion instead.
- Lighter sockets should be live on all cars at all times even if the key is not in the ignition. Let me worry about whether or not I've got something plugged into my car when it's off.
- Make any other system designed for drivers who don't pay attention (watch any Mercedes Benz commercial...) like blind spot warning systems, lane departure warning and intervention systems, systems that monitor if the driver is getting sleepy, systems that stop the car in an "impending collision" etc., optional and totally separate from any other option packages so people who DO pay attention to what they're doing while driving don't have to pay thousands extra to get all that crap bundled with the sunroof or stereo that they actually might WANT to have and use.
