Bicycles types and theft risk:?

Well, I figure this varies widely from region to region, but I'm curious to know what people reckon might be the most popularly stolen bikes? New, older or vintage? Mint or not? Road, mountain, racer, BMX - department store or specialist?

I ask because I'm getting a rather unusual bike. 2 speed Bendix-hub late 50's Columbia Speedliner middleweight. Not mint - from five to ten feet. I figure it could go both ways; no takers, or a big target.

Most popular bikes to be stolen would be Custom BMX bikes, because people can throw 1000$ into them. They're also smaller and more compact than a road bike, so it's easier to steal.

usually it is a crime of opportunity, rather than precise mathematical planning - whatever is easiest

"Not mint - from five to ten feet"

    what does that mean>?

    also depends on location

thieves go where bikes are expected

front of starbucks , college library or dorm, - big target

beside ratty thrift store or big box dept store - who rides a bike there?
