Best FREE antivirus program?

Hi, I am currently using Microsoft Security Essentials for my antivirus protection on Windows 7, but I was wondering if there are better ones I can get.

I'm quite satisfied with the AVG Free version.

I've had it for several months now and I've seen no problem with it. It is actually better than the McAffee I had before (and was paying a monthly subscription fee). The AVG is far less taxing (for want of a better word) on my computer and the scans work far better than the McAffee.

However I've only tried these two and Norton Anti-virus. The Norton version is good but their free version is the full version for a trial period, but that was an older version so I don't know how they do things now.

You can get the AVG free from their website here:

I would suggest that you keep looking, though. There may be something better out there I don't know about.

In my opinion you would be much better off with Avast free version over MSE. MSE just feels like a month behind everyone else, and in malware time that is ancient.

Remember, a single solution is not enough! No single antivirus or security suite is going to be able to protect you against everything, it's just not possible given the enormous amount of malware created each and every day. The best thing to do is use an antivirus and one or more antimalware scanners as well. This allows you to use the 'layers of security' approach which offers the most protection for your PC.

I highly recommend your download SUPERAntiSpyware - it is a very effective free malware remover, and quite light on system resources. Also very useful is MalwareBytes which is also an effective malware remover. Both of these have free version and pay versions. Personally I feel the pay versions are completely worth it but the free versions are great too!
