5gallon planted Setup?
I'm planning a 5 gallon planted tank (100gallon marine is on a 2 month re cycle due to ich parasite and fin rot fungus), and I want some advice on her RE fertilizing for plants.
Tank will either house a single betta or some shrimp. Tank is going to be fully filtered, has a large halogen light for plants, heater and small CO2 injector.
I have a question about how to set up for a freshwater planted in a small tank, if anyone has any steps or websites that explains the process thoroughly and is clear as to what I need to get. For example, what to buy for plant substrate (fertilizers/sand/clay/peat/soil), any additives that'll make the substrate more fertile, any additives for plant health/growth. That sort of thing.
And before anyone gets smart the tank will be starting a 6 week cycling process as soon as I get substrate sorted. I have a 100gallon SPS/LPS marine reef I understand water chemistry, parameter spikes and I will be fully modifying the filter and it's media for this 5 gallon tank.
Thanks! I havn't decided on plants yet, I more so want to get the fertilization right, I'll look into that, seems to be a lot simplier than I thought it would be! I want to use a silica sand (as white as I can get) and night vibrant green plants with a dark red/blue betta. I'm painting the background black with acrylic paint. The tank itself has white sides and light so the black will contrast it

For substrate I just use sand that I get at my local pet store and they do fine. You're probably going to want to get some fertilizer pellets that you just Bury in the sand to feed the plants and let them grow healthy.
I recommend getting a c02 dispenser since it being only a 5 gallon tank won't carry much oxygen.
As for plants get some dwarf baby tears and java moss. Other small plants will work just fine, nothing to big though. (Unless you've already decided on what plants you want to use.
Hope I helped.

Anacrachis and Pygmy amazons are best for the 5 gallon are best .A set of 5 vallisineria would be fine
at the back. To my opinion peat soil is the best as fertilizer.even sevaral (4) goramis would be fine.
Hope this helps.

Check out Fluval Plant Substrate. I have heard many good things about it and will be using it myself when I set up my new tank. You could probably get a small 4.4lb package for $10.

extensive wine glass? i think of a usual aquarium may be extra applicable, they are able to't quite have intense water by using fact they gotta flow as much as breath. a 50 watt heater and a filter out might prolly fee around 40+ greenbacks. it may be extra applicable to flow to petsmart to purchase a 10 gallon aquarium kit which comes with the filter out, hood, and a heater, plus slightly extra stuff. i think of its on sale perfect now for fifty funds, initially 60(there are 2 10 gallon kits over there) . yet while its no longer, you may get the ten gallon aqueon tank at petco for 60, by using fact its lots extra applicable than the only they have at petsmart. the betta would be a larger than happy fish. with a 10 gal, you may get a divider and function 2 bettas!
