5 year later owed taxes?
I lived for one year in this city and submitted my taxes the following year with no issues. Now 5 years later I have received a "final notice" despite never getting any notice whatsoever from them and they are telling me I owe them $1200.00 on a supposed $295.00 I've never heard of. Is there any recourse for me?

City taxes are the worst. And unlike the IRS and most states, most cities don't have a statute of limitations on city taxes. Five years is nothing. I got a bill for city per capita tax 14 years after the fact. After 14 years and 4 moves, I no longer had the cancelled check (the bank only keeps them for 7). So I wrote them a check for $45 for a tax that was originally $10.
Did you live in the city for the year in question? Did you only live there for a portion of the year in question? If you didn't live there that year, there should be no tax. If you only lived a portion of the year, you may only owe a portion of what they say. You will most likely have to call or visit the city's tax agency to see what your recourse may be.
