What should I expect of this cake!?

Call me crazy but I didnt have access to an oven so this is what I did with my cake batter:

I placed boiling water in a large pot and placed a cake tin inside and covered that with foil and put the lid on the pot. Now what should I expect to see when the cake is ready? Scrambled eggs or would this work? It was a loose batter.

    Interesting. You are steaming it, and since it is so liquid (assuming you did not decrease the liquid in the recipe), my guess is that it will be a sodden mess if it ever actually finishes cooking.

    Do you have a microwave? You can microwave cake batter, either in a microwaveable tube pan, or in small batches.

    You can also fry it like pancake batter, which is probably going to be the most successful for you, but if you intend to serve it to others, then either cook very thin layers and spread fruits and so forth between each layer and make it look fabulous when sliced; or, make it into a trifle using whipped topping, pudding, and cubes of cake.

    I think you're going to have a soggy half-cooked mess though I could be wrong. There are steamed puddings which are sort of cake-like, look up a recipe for Plum Pudding. But they're steamed for hours and are made from a fairly dry batter. Next time you have a craving for something cakelike and have no oven, make pancakes.
