A long time friend (started back in the mid seventies) starts treating you like dirt?

openly berating, insulting and flat out turns their back on you after offering to help.

A)

Is it time to divorce/end the relationship?

Or,

B)

Just drop its status in my mind from "A Trusted Friend", to that of " just a person I have known for going on 4 decades?

Update:

This is a person I considered my "Brother" and have never hesitated to help/assist whenever they have called with a need.

That happened to me too. Someone I had been friends with for 25 years has betrayed me in just this way...leaving me to wonder if any of the history we shared meant as much to her as it did to me at any point. I confronted her and told her just this...that she owed me at least an explanation. But all I got were platitudes and self justifications. It left me feeling if anything even more frustrated and hurt.

Just treat them like a growth...cut them out. You don't need to be giving time or thought waves to someone who so obviously isn't doing the same for you.
