London Tube- nearest station?

Hi

Will be in Hampshire later this month and want to go to London for the day.

Thought we could drive to the nearest tube station.

Anyone any idea where that would be ???

Update:

We will be taking the grandkids sightseeing so need to be central.

Just thought it would be cheaper than getting the train in all the way.

Is Amersham a long way from Southampton ?

I would strongly suggest you take the train to London Waterloo. It will be faster than driving. Fast services take 75 minutes. You can save money buy buying tickets in advance www.southwesttrains.co.uk and by using a 'Family and Friends' railcard. With the card adults

    get a 34% discount and kids 66%, www.railcard.co.uk

Amersham is in Buckinghamshire 29 miles north west of London. It is at the end of the Underground Metropolitan Line (Zone 9) and is served by Chiltern Railways trains from Marylebone Station (faster).

    They run every 30 minutes

The driving distance from Southampton to Amersham (not via London) is 64 miles

Coming from Southampton, go somewhere SOUTH of London, like Richmond of course!!!! Amersham?! Look at a map.

Rickmansworth is near the M25, junction 18, assuming you come that way, so probably the easiest station to get to. There is ample parking there too.

I'm not quite sure why Edgware or Stanmore would be better, as someone stated, as they are both further from you, and in more built up areas so it will take ages to drive to them.

Rickmansworth is at the top left of the Tube Map. You can get to London (Baker Street or Marylebone) in 30 mins from Ricky, so you're not too far from the sights.

Well, tube stations rarely have car parks, so perhaps Euston station? I know for sure they have car parks. You can catch the Northern and Victoria lines from Euston, or walk down the road a little to Euston square and get the Circle, Hammersmith & City or Metropolitan lines, or if you walk a few mins down the road in the other direction you can go to Kings Cross station where you can get all of the above lines plus the Piccadilly line. Kings Cross is also like, one stop on the tubes from Euston. :)

If you head up the M3/A316 to Richmond, you can catch either a train into London or the tube. The Old Deer Park just off the A316 on the Twickenham Road is one we used to use many years ago (before I moved to London). According to the website below, it is no longer pay and display, but one of those you have to phone to pay for parking. If you take the train from there, it is 23 minutes to Waterloo.

I tink it would be best for you to drive to East Croydon, park and jump on a train from East Croydon Station straight to London Bridge or London Victoria. Its a direct train to either destinations and the journey time is 25min.

Amersham is in Buckinghamshire, you'd be better off driving to Stanmore or High Barnet.
