There are two places that I try to visit whenever I am in Indianapolis. On the north side I always visit Sakura for sushi...

    Sakura Japanese Restaurant

    7201 N Keystone Ave

    Indianapolis, IN 46240-3243

    http://indysakura.com/

It's not a very big place so don't be surprised if there is a wait. It is worth is, however. I have never been disappointed. The fish is fresh, the sushi rice is nicely prepared and the service is great.

If you're in the mood for a steak, try St. Elmo's Steak House...

    St. Elmo's Steak house

    127 South Illinois Street

    Indianapolis, IN 46225

The shrimp cocktail is a must have (assuming you like shrimp!). The shrimp are huge and the cocktail sauce is home made and hot! The steaks are top quality and prepared right and the service is very good. St. Elmo is not cheap, however.

The same owners also have another restaurant, Harry & Izzy's which is a little less expensive. I have only been there once and it was very good...

    Harry & Izzy's

    153 S. Illinois St.

    Indianapolis,IN 46225

    317-635-9594

There is a place in Carmel that i went to with a client that was very good. I've only been there one time but would go back. That is Woody's Library Restaurant...

    Woodys Library Restaurant

    40 East Main Street

    Carmel, IN

    (317) 573-4444

The restaurant is in an old Carnegie Library building. Meals range between $12 and about $30.

Otherwise, here is a discussion on Chowhound with some additional recommendations...
