Which laptop makes/models offer the best battery life?
I'm looking to buy a laptop for heading off to University in September and don't want to have to cart the charger round with me to recharge it every couple of hours. I'd like a laptop with a battery that could see me through the day.
Alternatively, are there any laptop makers that offer good 'upgrade batteries' (batteries which are sold separately and offer a better lasting charge than the one that comes with the laptop itself).
Thanks in advance

Netbooks offer fantastic battery life, HP and samsung ones you can get with 7-10 hour battery life no problem with prices starting from £229 in Pc World i believe?
They perform slower than laptops on start up and wont do anything HD as such. But dont be deceived by this, I recently brought my girlfriend one that was in the £229 range and its battery life lives up to as advertised and it performs smoothly when performing office tasks (using Microsoft office 2010) and web browsing simultaneously.
I believe i bought her this

One last thing:
As a rule Netbooks use Microsoft Windows 7 "Starter" which is a really lightweight version in terms of features.
For example; You wont be able to change your desktop background or use windows transparency effects (windows aero)
Use this link to see which features you think you will actually utilize then decide if its worth paying the extra £20 (Online @ PCworld only) to upgrade to Home Premium

Hope this Helps! :)

Try using a netbook with the Intel Atom processor. They have a single core so require less power. On a low brightness screen setting you should get around 6hrs from a normal battery and even more from a high capacity battery.
Another choice is a Dell latitude laptop which you can buy 9 cell high capacity batteries for and they will last a long time.

The running time of the battery depends on the battery cells, it generally does not depend on the brands of the laptops. for example, http://www.gogo-battery.co.uk/gogo_batteries.php/T...
Capacity: 9600mAh
Voltage: 10.8V
Battery cells is equal to : (10.8/3.6)*(9600/2400)=12 cells,
The running time is about 6 hours under normall surroundings for 12 cells battery, when you buy a new laptop, the battery which comes with the laptop is generally 4 cells or 6 cells, so the running time is shorter than the high capacity batteries.

Toshiba NB305 longest battery life
Dell mini 1012 with 6-cell battery optional
Samsung, Eee pc or aspire one.
Keep remember, smaller display will cost less energy thus make portable life longer.
