Good heavens, these people are idiots. Some antidepressants are also approved to treat anxiety. Valium and Xanax are only used short term for acute anxiety issues. They are NOT chronic use antidepressants, I don't care what 1 person says or does. Doctors may prescribe Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil or others for anxiety as well as depression. Often, depression is the result of anxiety or is at lest linked to the anxiety. Prozac has a very good record and is safe for use in teenagers. Talk to your physician about any concerns, allergies, other medical conditions, etc and he can help pick out which is best fro you. But again, I feel any SSRI would be effective in your case. And unlike all the people who posted before me, I have many semesters of pharmacology and therapeutics to back up my suggestions.

Managing proper treatment is the key...one size does not fit all.

We all get the blues now and then... jumping into medication is not the best help

Leaving someone to cope with overwhelming feelings is inhumane.
