sprained ankle and volleyball?
about 5 days ago I think I sprained my ankle. when it happened it hurt but I kept going, on Saturday I woke up and felt my ankle was very sore, but I had private volleyball lessons so I went. 15 minutes in to the lesson I could barely walk without limping. BOTH of my ankles and the area around my lower calf hurt , there was this pulsing or throbbing there and I was so close to having my coach call 911 cause it hurt so badly. at the end of the lesson she let me do drills sitting down, instantly my pain went down. when I got home I wrapped both of my ankles in a ace bandage and it made my ankle feel a lot better. Last night I took it off and walked around for about 10 minutes and I couldn't even walk normal! there is no swelling or bruising. when you touch the bone it's sore . but my question is - today is the first day of my volleyball tryouts. my mom thinks it's nothing serious and won't take me to the doctor before. If I don't go to te doctor and don't find out what it is, what do I tell the coach? what if I can't run like Saturday?

Okay if you have ankle braces I would wear those if you don't I would stretch your ankles and ice them on and off. Roll your ankles around before the practice/ tryout. Tell your coach before and that you injured it in a private lesson and will try your abosolute hardest to keep up. She will be impressed by you being so committed. elevate your ankles tonight and before tryouts.
goodluck :)

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.
So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.
Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.
A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.
Heal your ankle fully & fast?

You should get to the tryouts about 20 minutes early to see the trainer and see what s/he says. Then/Or you can go to your coach 20 minutes early and explain what happened, but that you are really hard working and want to be considered for a spot even though you physically cant give 100% at the tryouts! Good luck, and feel better!

you NEED to see a doctor or talk to your coach ASAP. I play volleyball as well and i can be quite stubborn when it comes to injuries because, cmon? who wants to be told they cant play the sport they love! i originally had just sprained my ankle, and i didn't think it was a big deal so i just kept going even though it hurt i still pushed through, especially because states was a month away. well one day when i woke up my ankle was huge and we had to go to the hospital to get it checked out. Turns out it had started only being sprained but since i kept playing on it the injury escalated and i ended up with a broken growth plate. if i wouldve just sat out a week or two i would've been just fine! but since i decided to keep playing it got worse, and i had to sit out of states because my ankle was in a cast, i was devastated when my doctor told me i couldn't play at states. just take the advice and get it checked out!

Don't mess with a sprained ankle EVER! You should not have gone to that lesson.
I'm a dancer and I sprained my ankle somehow but I shrugged it off and ended up with a BROKEN ankle. So either rest and it gets better or make it worse.

Just tell your coach you hurt your ankle and she/ he should let you sit out, or have them wrap it really tight before you start practicing. My coach wrapped my sprained ankle and it felt fine.

I would just try your best to run but if you absolutely can't handle it, tell the coach you hurt it. You might want to warn her before practice starts.
