with the current situation in london?

widespread looting of shops police cars being destroyed do you think the police or the government are responsible for the lack of control authorities have of the streets in london. having liverd in northern ireland for over forty years i have never seen any thing like it, a police force of such a major uk city losing control. maybe london MET should ask the PSNI for some help http://www.2space.net/news/article/315987-12890046... they have lots of these and it would not be the first time a GB force had borrowed a few.

Update:

the psni landrover is aroured 100% the vehicle has dealt with some of ther worst riots in the history of northern ireland. and very widespread jaround ten years ago virtually every major town or city had a riot going on this the vehicle the psni used to keep them under control. and a good job they done. a rioter cannot get into this vehicle once it is locked from the inside..

Update 2:

im not asking who is responsible for the riots but who is responsible for the inability of keeping the situation contained.

Update 3:

what i see hapening in london would never happen in northern ireland mainly because the police have experience in dealing with riot situations and are very well equiped. also putting the army on the streets of london is not the answer as this can cause as many problems as it solves northern ireland has learned lesson at very high cost to life of civilians and security forces. the army has not been on the streets of northern ireland for 10 years and still the police cope with any situation that may arise.

Update 4:

seems our police have loaned the london met some armoured land rovers maybe now the met will be able to hold their lines and bring the situation under control

Update 5:

Antst. i know who is responsible for the rioting but sadly we do not live in a civlised society asnd london knows this only to as the bombs on july 7 have shown tbut if the current situation had happened 1 year later. what would the consequences be then. what i am asking, is the london Met responsible for not doing enough or is the govt responsible for cutting police budget either way they may not have been able to stop it but if equiped and the manpower to cope with containing the situation. yes i have a level of syphty with those that are rioting and some of those people see no hope in the future but i do not agree with what they do as they are only taking away from there own with destruction the rioting or looting to be more appropriate is pointless and solves nothing other than the shooting of duggan what other grievances lie underneath all this.

THE GOVT CUTTING BACK WHEN THEY SHOULD BE SPENDING MORE. IT IS EASY FOR SOMEONE SITTING IN A NICE HOUSE IN AN AFFLUENT AREA. to compla

I think the government has had far too much faith in its people! But no, I don't think this is the fault of the government. It is the fault of the rioters.

Where the government is going wrong right now, is that it is clear this is too much for the police to handle. There are too many rioters. The military needs to be brought in. But I don't blame the government for not being more prepared. Who would have thought people would behave this way?

Only in the UK would people try to cast the blame on the government rather than on themselves.

Well, that's what I'm saying... In a civilized country, why WOULD the police/government think that they'd need to be ready to deal with a situation like this?

Your question, where you say you're not asking who is responsible for the riots, but for keeping the situation contained, is typical UK! You're sitting back trying to cast blame on the government rather than on those who caused this. And you're sitting back blaming rather than doing anything useful to help the situation. "The authorities" should deal with it, right?

That attitude is why this situation happened. The rioters think they're owed, parents won't keep their kids off the streets at night, people are sitting around waiting for the police to fix the situation.

well put it this way the tory's have now built in massive cuts to all services

the current mountains of fire going on defects what the so called government is doing perfectly

    ie

    no jobs,

    low benefits,

    no housing

    high food prices

I could go on and on and on and on but I won't night night all

oh just had a after thought when we take these morons to court why not take their parents with them no matter what age the kids are and as far as the government is concerned if they take away all the reasons for the peoples future prospects and life styles then yes they are to blame

if there's another night of civil unrest then its a possibility, but will a vehicle- even if it's armoured up- stop the rioters?
