theres this one thing but its mostly in larger dogs..it has to do with how far away its feet are away from its heart. low circulation or somthing....id talk to a vet.

A lot of dogs will lick or even chew at their paws. Try spraying some bitter apple on your dogs paws to stop him from licking. Excessive licking and chewing of the paws can cause bald spots and can cause sores to develop.

Could be an allergy, you would have to have him tested to find out what the allergy is to, could be food, carpet, etc...

well maybe he just nibbles on himself..My dog usually does that too just like yours. Same with cats i have two cats, one of my cats ALWAYS does that too and that's how they clean themselves.
