Learning Violin, need some help?
how hard is it to learn violin?? i already play guitar and now want to start learning how to play violin/fiddle. i want to know just how hard it is though, and if its possible to self teach.
i just want to know for my own leisure to play along to songs (i like country music) im not interested in learning theory or intense classical stuff like that.
basically all i want to know is how hard is it to self teach yourself enough basics to be able to play along to popular country songs.

Yeah, it's pretty hard. I started when I was in third grade and it was kind of tough then. I don't know about self-teaching because interactive learning seems to be a better way for you to learn. There are certain postures you need to have and I don't know how well a manual is going to teach you. That's just me, though.Try getting into a free trial class or something and see if you prefer that. I hope you have fun and good luck!

Violin is among the hardest instruments to learn, I believe. Children start learning at a very young age for a reason. It is difficult, but I believe you can learn it for pleasure by yourself. You need some sort of guide and private instruction would help greatly but if you set your mind to it, you will do great!

it seems like it takes a long time to get a good tone quality and intonation, as school orchestras still sound pretty bad up until sophomore/junior year of high school. it took my sister several years, but then she wasn't very good at it anyway
