What exactly is the economy?

What if everyone were to withdraw the non existent money they have from the banks, shut down all the banks and stock market and all that and people just live. Would the world become a better or worst place?

The economy is all of the trading we do.

Withdrawing all of our money and doing nothing with it would be horrible. Can you farm crops, mine stone, make cement, build a house, build an electrical generator, extract oil, purify water, give medical treatment, etc.? If you can't, then you're going to want to to trade for those things. While barter is an option, money is simply a very convenient way to trade---there's no money without trade, and trade without money is very difficult.
