How to speed up laptop?

When I click start or click on my computer it takes like 10 minutes for it to finally pop up. Everything is so slow! I don't really want to go out and spend like $80 for repairs when I can get a brand new one. I tried uninstalling and defraging but i can't even open up the window to do that. And I'm on a diff computer atm

I've been a computer technician for over 10 years. If you suspect that someone is using your (wireless) Internet connection it's pretty easy to test. Look at your DSL modem or cable modem. It will have an "activity" light that blinks while data is being sent or received. If it's blinking like crazy then something is using it to access the Internet. Stolen WiFi usually happens when people buy their own wireless routers and don't set a security protocol on them. If your son or brother-in-law or whoever installed the wireless router for you, and you connect it's still named "Netgear" or "Linksys" or some other brand name, then chances are they did *not* enable wireless security and anybody within 200' (sometimes farther) can use your Internet connection any time they want. Kids love tapping into their neighbor's wireless networks to download music and dirty pictures/movies. After they download them they also share these with other people, which means that any illegal activity would be traced to your residence and not theirs. To enable security on your wireless router open your Internet browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) and try going to one of these addresses (only one will work): 192.168.0.1 192.168.1.1 If you get a logon screen the name is "admin" and the password is usually either "admin" or "password" Go to the wireless section and from there you can access the security section. Make sure security is enabled. Choose WPA for encryption and put in a key (password). It should be a name and number. While you're in that wireless section, go ahead and change the wireless name to something more personal. Your other wireless devices (laptops, Xbox, iPhone, Netflix, etc.) that use the wireless connection will have to reconnect to the new network, and use the password. --------------- If a computer on your network is infected with a virus or spyware it can hog the Internet resources as well. They'll do things like send spam, or try to infect other people. A good program that is absolutely free, which to get rid of these is called Malwarebytes. Do a search for it and you'll find it pretty quickly. It does an excellent job at removing these things, even when the pay-for anti-viruses don't work.

i'm no computer techie BUT you may have a virus on your computer,if so invest in a program like Norton(that's what i use, works pretty good, haven't gotten any viruses) Maybe you have too much space used up on your computer? i don't know if that's what causes the computer to be slow but i don't have much space used up on my laptop and it works pretty fast.that means anything you can delete to clear space like temporay internet files, recycle bin..you can even use the disk cleanup thing on your computer, and also delete any programs on your computer you don't need or use.. hope that maybe gives you some insight to the problem. Somebody smarter than me might have your answer! :)
