im looking to take mixed martial arts classes and i want to get into good condition. the main thing i want to focus on is my endurance, the ability to last a long time in a fight. what are some good running exercises i can do to help me build endurance for mma. i am not trying to gain muscle, really all i want is to obtain speed and endurance.

You may hear conflicting arguments about this but run on a treadmill or exercise bike or perform any kind of cardio workout using a snorkel. The is called Hypoxic Training. You will have to either tape or plug your nose to ensure that you are only breathing through the snorkel.

This limits the amount of oxygen that your body is able to take in. This will train your body become more efficient at learning how to function with the lower levels of oxygen, so when you stop using the snorkel and go back to training normally you will have a gas tank that doesn't empty. This is comparable to high elevation training, without actually going to higher elevations.

You should be cautious while doing this type of training, while limiting the amount of oxygen that your body conumes, it also limits the amount of carbon dioxide your body expels. This could result in increased heart-rate, increased bloodpressure, shortness of breath, light headed-ness, purple or blueish color in the skin. As always you train at your own risk.

start with a light jog to get the blood pumpin, and make sure you stretch. run for a little bit, then in a burst, sprint as fast as you can until you cant anymore, but dont stop running, bring it back to a jog. do that maybe 10 times per run and it will increase your "wind" and endurance through the roof. also, jumping rope is great for endurance and foot eye coordination which will help you with your footwork. but honestly you dont need to be in great shape to start MMA, they will get you into shape. good luck with your training!
