The common thread is that some men look at you and then make homophobic comments, insulting you. This does not mean anything other than that they're prejudiced and express hatred to others.

What arouses their suspicions is another matter. Such people are ignorant, so they're able to miscontrue anything that fits their narrow viewpoint of the world. If you don't quite fit the model of what they believe to be 100% straight, then they may assume that you're gay.

Rather than try to change yourself, so tha@t you don't get hatred spewed at you, allow yourself to feel comfortable being who you are. If you have fuller confidence, then others may feel less able or inclined to harass you, but remember their behaviour really speaks volumes about who they are at a deeper level.

Psychologists have proven that homophobic men have higher levels of sexual arousal from other men, and so these people often reflect back to others what they are uncomfortable with about themselves.

Here's an extract of a study from the 90's:

'The researchers reported that 24% of the non-homophobic men showed some degree of tumescence in response to the male homosexual video, compared to 54% of the subjects who scored high on the homophobia scale. In addition, 66% of the non-homophobic group showed no significant increases in tumescence after this video, but only 20% of the homophobic men failed to display any arousal. Additionally, when the participants rated their degree of sexual arousal later, the homophobic men significantly underestimated their degree of arousal by the male homosexual video.' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latent_homosexuality

Hope this helps. Good luck! Rob

Have you ever caught yourself staring at them first and not realizing it? Or you are staring off in that direction at something else and they get the wrong idea? The men who say it are probably homosexual themselves and try to cover it up by blaming it on you when you catch them staring at you. How big of a deal has it become? How many times has it happened? Is it always in the same place?

Maybe you just look kinda gay - maybe you are metrosexual looking - dress well and look after yourself - these any guy who does that cab be mistaken for gay - usually the other guy is bordering on neanderthal tho :)
