How do I soften a fishing net?

I bought a fishing net recently and it is stiff and non flexible. How do I soften it to its original softness?

Update:

The net is a No. 12 nylon mono filament, one piece, not pieced together.

What I do with cast nets is soak them in fabric softener overnight

it depends on what its made of. monofilament nets can be softened with line conditioner. for any other kind, i would get it wet and put some weight in it (landing a fish would be the most enjoyable way.) when it dries the fibers should be stretched out.
