The teaching of humanism and citizenship would be far better use of time than outdated religious dogma

If you intend to show your small kid to learn common words that may likely come across and which can be conditions to fundamental phonetic rules then the thing you need is here https://tr.im/tcmyU , Children Learning Reading program.
Children Learning Reading is a phonetic centered studying system. Which means it first shows your child the letters of the alphabet and the seems they make. It then applies that understanding to greatly help your child figure out words on the basis of the looks the letters make. The program was created to teach the fundamental "code" for studying initially. Just following it's been acquired are exceptions, problems, and modifications introduced.

Should public schools be abolished since most are garbage and do not challenge students anymore? They teach kids to read using memorization instead of phonics so that when they come to a new word they have no idea what it is until someone tells them. It takes 45 minutes to do a double digit multiplication problem because instead of teaching them to memorize their multiplication tables they are teaching them to draw little boxes beside the problems. At least religious schools go with the saying," If it ain't broke don't fix it."

2/3 of the school children in the USA attend faith schools or are home schooled;they have the highest educational scores and testing knowledge.
That leaves the 1/3 of students in the public schools that might graduate with at best a 4th grade level education, unable to read properly with little to no math skills.Video gamers and fast food workers; wow our future citizens are just scary.
Do you really believe what you asked???

I absolutely loathe religious education but I think you should keep it anyway to teach people about what others actually believe and not a garbled version they may pick up from some seedy newspaper or people even.
I do agree though, humanism should be taught and citizenship too
I don't think faith schools should be allowed, it's a form of segregation in my view.

No. The problem with most religion is the presumption that it's the best possible way to view the world, and the last thing we need is a witch hunt of humanists against utilitarians. Critical thinking is what needs to be taught, leave religion and philosophy as subjects to be taught in depth, the last thing we need is to replace teaching kids what to think with teaching kids what to think.

I have seen what faith schools can do in Northern Ireland. They have facilitated decades of hatred and violence and have divided communities on grounds of religion. There are even cases where some children have never knowingly met or communicated with people of other faiths as they have been confined to their religious ghettos and schools.

I'm only against religious classes when it comes to public schools. I would have nothing against comparative religions, but teaching only one religion exclusively and without even mentioning atheism or agnosticism as a possibility is abuse of the public system, in my opinion.

So we become a society that freedom is taken away. Humanism it is a destructive teaching. It tells man unless he is important or has some type of influence they are not a resource that is required for life. Humanism is the teaching that man is the ultimate source.
Your bland statement that religions are outdated dogma is a fallacy called oversimplification.

Faith-schools should definitely be abolished. What way is it to prepare young people for the reality of our diverse society if they grow up in a place where they only mainly meet people of their own faith? That's a terrible disservice to the kids.
Especially faith-schools for immigrants should be abolished. Integration through segregation is just a bad idea.
