Can someone do this for me?

I want to see if I can build a computer to the specifications of an apple mac pro quad core (The base model).

Could someone please research this and see how much it would cost for the components to build a PC with the same (or better) Specs of a mac. I need this to prove a friend wrong :)

http://store.apple.com/uk-business/browse/home/sho... This link takes you to the apple site for mac pros... Please compare to the QUAD core one. Thanks.

Update:

MAJORIE, I can't do it myself because I don't have a good understanding of computers...

Update 2:

Update 3:

I don't intend on building it, I just want to see how much it would be... Believe me, No idea of where to start let alone how to build such a machine.

Yeah Mac Pros have huge margins for Apple. I've explained why on here before if you look at my previous answers, but basically its because they are priced for professional and enterprise users who will pay what they need for a solution. They aren't aimed at home users and as such aren't priced to compete with gaming computers or the price of components from an internet site. Add in Apple never updating components (3.2GHz quad core has replaced 2.80GHz, memory is much cheaper, Radeon 6000 series is available etc) and they are terrible value if compared to a PC on a pure hardware basis - dual socket ones less so but still a lot more than components.

    Per component-

    2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon

That could be either the W3530 or the X3460. Both are Nehalem micro architecture processors and go for about £227 each.

    http://www.porthale.co.uk/products.asp?partno=BX80...

    memory- 3 x 1GB (unknown brand) DDR3 ECC memory ...around £75?

    system case- anyones guess...£150?

    socket 1156 motherboard- around £120

    1TB hard drive- £50

    cd/dvd burner (retail)- £20

power supply for Mac Pro- £134

    Radeon HD 5770- £120

    Apple magic mouse- £59

Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad- £40

Well that's everything that's listed for the base model of the Mac Pro and the grand total is £995 or £1015.99 if you include the OS X Lion operating system. That's quite a bit of difference between the cost of the components if you built it yourself and the asking price of £2,041.00

One would expect a 50% markup, but 100%??? The numbers don't lie...buying a Mac is a rip off.
