"Flying is prison." What does it mean?

I wonder if this has something to do with testing boundaries and rules... let me explain:

This guy sounds like someone who operates outside of the rules, in that he doesn't appear to care about anyone / anything beyond his own concerns. This contrasts with "flying home," which I'm guessing is more structured with household rules. From this dream character's perspective, going home might seem very restrictive - even a prison, to put it in an exaggerated metaphor.

To take this a step further, sometimes dream characters are representations of different aspects of ourselves. It doesn't necessarily mean that you are as self-involved as the person you used to know - he likely just represents urges or actions that you associate with him. Ask yourself whether you have been feeling somewhat restricted by rules in waking life lately, or wanting to test where the boundaries truly lie.

Now it's my turn to be curious... about why you would seek an answer for something you say you do not care about? Anyway, best of luck to you.

Your dream made me remember a poem I wrote when I was a sophomore in HS. It was around 1972. The poem was about a man in prison and the only thing he could see from his prison cell window was the sky and once in awhile birds. So he naturally asked "Are birds ever free from the chains of the sky way?" My teacher didn't get it. Your dream has some interesting elements, cars, flying and a bully of sorts. Flying dreams are the beginning of being able to have Out Of Body Experiences or OOBES, sometimes called astral projection. The cars being unoccupied but driving along suggests to me a feeling that your subconscious mind thinks that right now life is pretty much on autopilot. Your ability to "fly" away from any situation, literally in your dreams but perhaps in a sense in waking life could be the source of the Flying Is Prison analogy. Notice that the dream character (really your own subconscious) uses a metaphor, ( Flying is prison ) and not a simile (flying is like prison) to describe your actions. I think the phrase flying is prison is your brains way of telling you that you fall back on flying to get out of unpleasantness every time and that you can't stop yourself. Because you have the ability you use, you are seemingly trapped into using it and therefore it is prison. If you had a choice it would be like prison. Maybe your brain is telling you to learn new way to deal with unpleasant situations. Like is not on autopilot and you must learn the art of confrontation if you are ever going to truly conquer your fears or your enemies. Birds fly because they have to, not because they want to. Flying is prison. I think you are not supposed to fly because you can, I think you are supposed to engage.
