setup to achieve 350 to 450 hp with 350 sbc?
Im looking for a setup to get anywhere between 350 to 450 hp with my small block 350. and also a good tq number because as the saying goes. Horsepower sells motor, Torque wins races. i was looking around for different setups to achieve this. cam selection, head selection, head work maybe, carb, intake selection, etc. anything would help. what i have im able to use are, an Edelbrock RPM intake, have a 650 Edlebrock and 750 DP holley carb, i have a cam but not sure what the specs are. its currently in my 305. i have headers and a set of camel hump heads. This is what i have in my shed to use but i would really like to hear some suggestions about good combinations to achieve my power goals. With or without using what i have.

350-450 HP out of a chevy 350 is pretty easy.
You could do it with the double hump heads but you would be way ahead of the game if you used vortec heads.
Put the camel hump heads and RPM intake up for sale on craigslist. I just sold my last set of 462 double hump heads for $200 with out rocker arms or rocker studs
Buy a set of 1996-02 vortec heads from L31 350 powered trucks, vans, SUV. The vortec heads are the best flowing production chevy head ever. They will gain about 40 HP over the double hump heads.
The vortecs do need an 8 bolt hole vortec style intake though, so get a performer RPM or pro products crosswind intake for the vortec heads.
4 VR hyper flat top pistons, fel pro 1094 head gaskets, fel pro MS98000 intake gaskets. The vortecs CC out at 62-63cc. So with flat tops, those heads and head gaskets, this will put you in the 9.8 to 10.4:1 compression range
214 to 218 degree intake @ .050" / 224 to 230 degree exhaust @.050" cam with a 110 or 112 LSA. cam. Try to keep cam lift under .500"
The vortec heads are lift limited to .470" but can be modded for .500" to .515" pretty easy. Use a set of howards 98212 valve springs and grind 3/32" off the very bottom of all retainers. (this is why they are lift limited. The retainers hits the top of guide and seal and at more than .470" you do not have the .050" safty clearance between the two.)
By removing 3/32" (.093750") off the retainers that gives you that much more clearance between guides and retainers.
.470" + .09375" = .56375" - .0500" clearance = .513", so you can safty run .513" lift after doing this mod.
600-670 cfm carb, 1-5/8" long tube headers, dual 2.25" pipes, 2.25" X pipe, two good flowing mufflers.
Thats a 375-390 HP combo that you can build cheap
