How can I avoid penalty for late tax return year ended 5 April 2010?

I didn't send my tax return by 6 months after the due date. I need a reliable reason to avoid this penalty.

Please help! Thanks!

Well it's me you're going to appeal to. If I don't believe you then I'll slap on interest and penalties. Why not admit it, pay the £100, and get on with your life rather than waste my time writing letters back and forth?

Well . . you could say you sent it in already . . . and don't know why your check wasn't cashed, and didn't realize it . . they might let you off, as it's out of your hands when it is delivered to the post office, (which the government owns by the way) . . worth a try

In the UK they will not accept any reason apart from death. Contact them, the fine will be getting bigger.

Sorry - you'd need a good reason, and it needs to be provable. You've no chance.
