The other answerers have given great advice. I worked in insurance, but for large corporations. You need the General Liability if you lease a separate office space. If you work out of home, you may need to see if it can be attached to your Homeowners. The Professional Liability is if you get sued for bad advice. May never happen, but you never know. It can be expensive. Depending on what vehicles you use, you may need automobile coverage. Workers Compensation/Employers Liability if you have employees. As your business grows, you can add Umbrella or Excess coverage which gives you higher limits over and above what you have on these other policies. If you have an office space, you will also need Property Insurance. As the other two have noted, it's an excellent idea to sit down with your Homeowner's Agent and discuss. He may have these coverages or else can refer you to reliable sources. Good luck on your business!

At the very least Commercial General Liability, and depending on what you're specifically doing you may need to consider Workers Compensation and Professional Liability. Contact a local insurance broker to discuss your needs.

    Quite possibly none.

Of course, if you get sued related to a job someone you referred did poorly, you won't have anyone to pay your legal defense costs and judgement.

You should probably sit down and talk to your insurance agent about this business. Start with the guy that does your house/car insurance.
