Mayweather, Pacquiao, Fight of the Year questions?

A) Are Mayweather and Pacquiao too good to be in a Fight Of the Year?

B) Does Floyd's style not lend itself to a Fight of the Year (considering many of his opponents...Gatti, Augustus, Corrales, Castillo, and Marquez...have been in Fight of the Year bouts?

C) Would Mayweather vs. Pacquiao be a Fight of the Year?

    A) I think Mayweather's defense is too good to be in a Fight of the Year. All Pacquiao does is brawl he would be more likely to be in a Fight of the Year.

    B) Yes, but it's not just his style. He's just too good. He can get in the ring with a guy people rate as one of the elite in the sport and make him look like he's a rookie.

    C) I think if Mayweather were to fight Pacquiao like he fought Mosley then yes it's possible. Mayweather said he will do the same thing against Ortiz so we'll see. If Mayweather continues to fight like that then those will be some entertaining fights. If he does it with Pacquiao and wins, that could be a Fight of the Year candidate.

  • A) Looking at the current crop of fighters I think that's true. A fight of the year cannot be a one sided boxing lesson or a dominant out punching. All the great, great boxing matches had a great eb and flow to them and evenly matched copetitors. Other than each other, I don't see anyone around and good enough to make a fight copetetive enough to be FOTY.

    B) I think this is true, although the better an opponent is the more exciting he tends to be. De La Hoya and Castillo were both entertaining. If anyone can ruffle Floyd's feathers enough for him to make the mistakes necesassary for FOTY style action it's Manny.

    C) Honestly I doubt it. Like Wlad v Haye I think the scale of the event would over shadow the fight itself.

    A) Yes. Mayweather is too good defensively to get hit. Pacquiao always overpowers his opponents to the point where they can't hurt him back.

    B) Floyd's style keeps himself away from Fight of the Years because FOTYs are usually brawls between both fighters. Floyd doesn't brawl and doesn't allow the other opponent to brawl although they want to.

    C) To be honest, I believe not. So many years of hype, and it is the most anticipated fight, it might break PPV records and be a historical event, but I don't believe it will. Its a single fight, and it might just not live up to the hype.

Also Floyd's defensive style won't make it a fight of the year, unless he decides to brawl, which isn't smart, in my opinion.

    Thanks for the questions!

    A) Yes, see Oscar v Tito. Most "dream fights" are hardly that

    B) If Floyd was somehow injured and had to stand flat footed and was behind on the cards, maybe, but Mayweather's style is just not "fight of the year" material.

    C) Nope. Floyd either boxes Manny's ears off in a boring fight, or Manny is more aggressive and wins a 12 round, close decision

I think that Mayweather and Pacquiao are delaying this fight in their own ways because neither wants to potentially damage their legacy, It would definitely be the fight of the year and I think that Mayweathers style does not help when it comes to facing Pacquiao as Pacquiao is just as fast and as smart as Mayweather

I hope the fight happens because it is almost guaranteed to be a great fight

  • A) - Yes. Both are really superior to everyone else in the sport talent-wise, one on offense, the other on defense, that it tends to create fully one-sided fights they partake in.

    B) Not really, his style is much more defense than offense, whereas you find most bouts that are named fight of the year tend to be brawls, ebb and flow contests, and the like.

    C) No. It won't be because of the clash of styles, Mayweather will be looking to be on the defense whiel Pacquiao will be looking to mix it up.

    A) No

    B) Slugfest fights usually get Fight of the Year. Floyd is not a brawler like the fighter you mentioned.

    C) I believe so if Mayweather is willing to trade with Pacman.

It would definitely be fight of the year, absolutely, but only till the first bell rings. Floyd won't let it be that type of fight and he would be smart not to. To trade with Pacquiao?!!!....with Floyds superior ability, reflexes and accuracy would be just stupid in his part.

It will be the comedy fight of the year. It's gonna be running and chasing ,until someone slips and call it a knockdown.. Anyway, That fight will never happen, Just forget Pacquiao Mayweather fight.

trust me you wont ever see floyd in a fight of the year,he doesnt engage in slugfest, thats not his style,he is too patient and ideally likes to take his opponents into late rounds then stop em,at least he did in the lighter weights but not these days, this fight needs to be made for the good of the sport!
