i have old paneling can i attach new paneling over it?
i was wondering if i can put new paneling right over the old stuff its scratched and has some holes and i thought it might just be faster to put new right overthe old but what do i do about windows and light sockets plase don't say paint it the damage in some areas are pretty signiicant so painting is out of the question just want to know if it could work

It could work if you know what you're doing, but somehow I don't think you do. You have to cut out to fit around windows and doors.

Sorry no, you can't panel over paneling, however, there's a special wallpaper that you can use to go over paneling. It would be a lot quicker, not to mention cheaper. This special wallpaper, can only be purchased in a genuine wallpaper store. Most of these stores will have samples to look at. Some have designs & some don't. Once the wallpaper is placed over the paneling, you won't see any of the lines that paneling has. This wallpaper doesn't come in colors, or at least it didn't, when I bought it. That allows you to paint it a color of your choice.

It could be done but all your electrical sockets and switches would be below the surface of the new wall. In addition, by removing the old panelling, you get to see the condition of the wiring, pipes and insulation. You may decide that you want to do an upgrade or even add insulation but at the least you will know what pests have build nests in the wall.
