Wondering how you get put in your classes for school?!?

I mean, I know how you get put in regular, advanced, and honors, but like how do they pick which students go in which classes? Is it random? I'm just curious Here (:

Where I live, you have certain required classes you have to take for each grade. So it's usually the standard English, Math, Social Studies, and Science.

And then maybe you'll have to take P.E. and Health sometime in your middle/high school years. I'm not sure how they choose this. I guess it's by random and convenience. I don't know.

Then you have your electives. Those are the classes you get to choose. For example, Band/Orchestra, Language Class, Art Class, etc.

I know in high school, you don't get a lot of electives when you're a freshmen, probably one or two at most. And as a freshmen, you're probably not even gonna get your first choice of the elective.

As you get older, your first choice elective has a greater chance of getting picked.
