Please recommend the best dry Puppy Food for Small Breed?

Our wee puppy is a long hair chihuahua, 7 weeks old, almost weaned. He weighs 1 pound, 6 oz, and is very healthy, want to keep him that way.

This site contains food reviews and ingredients of the food. If there is a contoversial ingredient, it explains the controversy. It also gives retail and online purchasing information. You can also get Nutro and feed stores and The Tractor Supply stores. Hope this helps and good luck with him!

Your food now has 27% protein, innova is at 24%. Solid gold has formulas at 23%, and timberwolf is at 25%. Dogs have to have protein and protein amount has nothing to do with gaining weight, weight has to do with the amount you feed. What you have her on now is a great food. I wouldnt switch unless I was going grain free. And protein is not an issue. I know many that do will on grain free foods. Look into taste of the wild. It is grain free, but less rich than evo and solid gold BATM. Only problem with it is that its hard to find. I can find it at a feed store about an hour away. Foods made for large breed, small breed, etc are all marketing scams. Just feed a reg adult high quality dog food. The grain free dog foods are rich(as is wellness and besides TOTW) you just feed less of it to avoid lose stools.

Any dog food you can buy from walmart is going to be crap. I suggest going to your local petstore and getting either either Blue Buffalo, or NUTRO natural choice. I feed mine Nutro, and there is a small breed puppy formula that is great! good luck with your new baby!

As for the idiot that recommended purina puppy chow...it's a crap food full of fillers. Feeding your dog great food isn't spoiling them, it's called taking of them correctly by feeding them a diet that is good for their health. Their are so many dogs (like my own) that are allergic to crappy dog foods like purina.

Blue Buffalo, Natural Balance, Nutro, Taste of the Wild... any of the limited ingredient foods are great but quite expensive. Purina now has a limited ingredient food called One Beyond.

For the record... I need Purina One Beyond. My dog doesn't like Nutro and I can't buy Blue Buffalo within an hour of where I live.

I say Purina Puppy Chow. I know people are going to dislike my answer but that's what I feed my Chihuahuas. Dogs don't need to be spoiled with Blue Buffalo and things like that, especially Chihuahuas! Chihuahuas can get fat easier than most breeds so it is important to feed them right. My Chihuahuas are not over weight at all. Purina is a good brand even though it is not made of just meat. When you feed your dog things like that they get fat! I know you probably won't listen to me, but it's ok it's just my opinion!

    Good luck with your Chihuahua!

Just go with a food that is wheat, corn and soy free. Make sure it is small kibble so it will be easy for him to eat it.
