Need help with repeating a wireless signal?

Long story short we have a two story house and the router is on the first on the one end and i need the signal to reach my room on the second on the other side of the house.

We use a netgear modem (a powerful one) and we have another spare netgear router.

As far as i know it is possible to use the second router as a repeater.

Is it also possible to repeat the signal using my laptop?

The current signal reaches til about 6 meters from my room.

Thanks in advance!

You'd be much better off with a wireless access point or a wireless repeater.

You might be able to turn a laptop into a wireless repeater, but it will require two ethernet cards - one wireless, the other either wired or wireless. It uses the first wireless modem for internet access and provides ethernet service to your second wireless modem.

If your netgear is powerful like you claim, it should reach all the way through your house just fine. It might be having trouble passing certain walls and floors though. Wireless routers are notorious for having trouble passing walls and floors at an angle. If you reposition it a little, you might find you can manage with just the one wireless.

Wireless to wireless is a diminishing signal strength.Yes you can use the two routers just make one an access point, but the signal wont be great, they arent boosters, just relays.

What you probably want is interent over powerline plugs, they work well.

Beware there are different data speed sets, e.g. 150mb ps 200mbps etc.

you can use the second one as a wireless bridge to boost the signal or you could just buy an access point to extend the wifi signal
