Need help with 2003 Honda Odyssey.?

Am looking at a 2003 Honda Odyssey. My brother works at a dealership and gets used cars for the price they pay for them. They are asking $2500. It has 260,000 miles on it! OUCH! He says if they're taken care of well, miles don't mean a whole lot. I NEED more assurance before I buy it... Any opinions or suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thank you!!!!

    Hey Lisa,

When you stop and think, "260,000 Miles," on a "2003 Honda Odyssey," that's an annual average of "32,500 Miles," driven "Per-Year" for the past eight (8) years. Way above the normal annual percentage rate. One would wonder how did this vehicle hold up after all those miles. One would also wonder, has the vehicle had any "Major Repairs," like may-be a new engine, transmission and so on. Or may-be it was just a good "Preventive Maintenance Program," that the previous owner(s) took to keep this car from it's burial-site. Keep in mind cars are made better today, with improved technology, and with proper maintenance vehicles can last for years. It is obvious this vehicle has been on many "Odysseys," to the soccer game, and beyond.

I think "$2,500.00" is a fair price for this vehicle, but before I put my hard earned cash on the table, there's a little homework to be done. I would want to know the "Number Of Previous Owners - Car Ever Involved In An Accident - Previous Mechanical Problems - and it's Maintenance History." This information can easy be obtained by running the "Vehicle's Identification Number VIN," by "CarFax."

Also a little research on the "NADA Car Pricing Web-Site," tells me that a "2003 Honda Odyssey Wagon 5D EX," which is the "Base Model," with "260,000," still holds a pretty good "Clean Retail," of "$6,400.00" on the market. While the "Average Trade-In," comes in at "$3,200.00." So "Yes," the "$2,500.00," being asked is without a doubt a fair "Asking Price."

Now come on Lisa, remember that's their asking price, now it's time to "Haggle," that price down to let's say $2,000.00 to $$2,350.00. If you have a pretty good idea that this is the car for you, and your needs, and most of all your "Budget." Than I say "Haggle-Haggle-Haggle," to that car dealer, because I know, he doesn't want a car with "260,000 Miles," sitting around on his car-lot.

Before purchasing, I would have a good trusted "Mechanic - Friend - Repair Shop," totally inspect the car, "In & Out", and take it on a good "Test Drive." I don't mean a ride up the block, but take it on the "Open High-Way," see how the car handles.

Conclusion: If the vehicle is "Clean In & Out," and has "No Mechanical," issues, I think laying out "$2,000.00 to $2,500.00," for a "2003 Honda Odyssey," with "260,000 Miles," it's a bargain. Heck the "Body Parts," by themselves are worth more than that. Look around, what the heck can you really buy today with-in that budget, maybe a nice used "Motorcycle," or "Moped."

Wishing You The Very Best ... Good Luck !
