Drivers License, Moving from Texas to California?

I live in Texas and I'm going to move to California. When I change my drivers license, am I going to have to retake the driving test?

You don't need to take a driving test, but the state of CA DMV requires you to take a written test.

You would simply take the vision, and written test. Usually you do not have to take the road test, but the DMV reserves the right to ask. You will be required to obtain a California driver license within 10 days of becoming a California resident, and to register your car in California within 20 days. (the state is broke, and is desperate to get your money). You MUST surrender your Texas license as part of the process.

California has the country's 2d highest unemployment rate, so it's curious that when so many Californians are moving to Texas to find work you would leave Texas to come here. Make sure to bring enough savings to live on for MANY months while you try to find one of those very elusive jobs.

Depends on whether or not California offers reciprocity for Texas drivers' licenses. Check the California DMV website for info.
